This project began in early 2020 as the pandemic was unfolding and continued until 2023. The regional trains coming out of Barcelona are adorned in graffiti and as I travelled up and down the Mediterranean coast a story emerged, one about the challenges we face. I saw a struggle, between now and then, the virus and us, the future and the past, the beauty and the pain.<\/p>\n

The images offer two dimensional perspectives, the graffitied foreground and the Mediterranean background. Travelling offers three dimensional simultaneous perspectives on where we are, where we were and where we are going, a stereoscopic threading of all moments of time and thought simultaneously.<\/p>\n

Movement exposes the fragility of time, place, identity.\u00a0 <\/span>The trains, covered with expressions from unknown hands during a time like the pandemic, seemed to echo a collective grappling with impermanence and an awareness of both beauty and chaos.<\/p>\n

As I continued the project beyond the pandemic I found more connections, some personal, some from the world in front of me, the immigrant nightmare unfolding in the Mediterranean..\u2026\u00a0 <\/span>I found a tension between creation and destruction as we travel through time and space, the eternal ebb and flow, between good and bad, the visible spectrum, darkness and light\u2026\u2026.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In December 2020 \u2018Train\u2019 was shortlisted for the publication \u2018The Crisis & the Future of Democracy\u2019 from the\u00a0Rosa Luxemburg Foundation<\/a>. In 2021 the\u00a0British Journal of Photography<\/a>\u00a0chose 2 images from the same project for their online exhibition \u2018Edition 365<\/a>\u2019. In 2022 and 2023, some of these images were selected for the\u00a0Halftone Art Fair<\/a>\u00a0organised by\u00a0PhotoIreland<\/a> at the Library Project in Dublin.\u00a0 In late 2024, this project was selected by PhotoIreland for the TLP editions<\/a> and published into a book. It was\u00a0 showcased in ‘On the Irish Photobook’ at the Photospace Gallery in New Zealand.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

This project is currently exhibiting at La Tintoreria<\/em><\/a> Art Gallery in Vic, Catalunya.<\/p>\n
